ABOUT US
The Women's Clubhouse of Victoria began as an idea by women for the women of Victoria in the mid-1950's.

Various women's groups including the Bronte Club, the Decora Club, the Currer Bell Club and the Monday Morning Study Club had long sought suitable venues for their gatherings across town. Yet, the absence of a permanent space persisted as a challenge. Determined to overcome this obstacle, these enterprising women embarked on a remarkable six-year endeavor. Their vision: to build the Women's Clubhouse of Victoria at the present location of 1408 North Moody Street.
Undeterred by the magnitude of their task, these ladies organized various events across Victoria to raise funds. Garden parties, a Turtle Derby, silver teas, card parties and antique shows captivated the imagination of the community. Each event played a crucial role in gathering the necessary funds, showing the power of collective effort and determination.

Plans for the building were completed in April 1957, and the contract for the building was awarded in May of that year. Ground breaking ceremonies were held on June 18, and the building was accepted with final papers signed on December 20, 1957. The Victoria Women's Clubhouse was not only a new home for the member clubs but rapidly became a center for civic and social events.

In 1994, the Women's Clubhouse Board of Directors purchased the adjacent lot to provide off-street parking. This decision was made to address the practical need for parking space, ensuring convenience and accessibility for members and visitors attending events or utilizing the Women's Clubhouse facilities.

In 2023, the installation of a front door ramp marked a significant milestone for the Women's Clubhouse, rendering its entrance fully ADA compliant. This vital addition ensures inclusivity and accessibility for all members and guests. Notably, the ramp stands as a poignant tribute to Alfred F. Mason, Jr., whose memory is honored through this thoughtful ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony held on March 20, 2024.

Presently, the Victoria Women's Clubhouse stands as a versatile hub, accommodating esteemed gatherings of the Bronte Club and the Decora Club. Beyond its regular affiliations, it has evolved into a cherished venue for an array of special occasions, including birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings. Through a streamlined rental process, individuals and groups can access this historic space, making cherished memories against the backdrop of its rich heritage and welcoming ambiance.
